Symbolic adoption disclaimer
The ice, the coordinates and the satellite pictures are real. The adoption is symbolic.

What you get
A named, documented connection to one real glacier or iceberg in our registry: a page, a certificate with a unique ID and a QR code, and pictures with their dates and sources.
What you do not get
- No ownership, title, lease or any legal right over the ice, the land, the sea or the airspace.
- No right to visit, use, name officially, mine or sell the piece, or any share of it.
- No official name. A symbolic name exists only in our registry.
- No official status. The certificate is a keepsake issued by Adoptice. It is not a government or scientific document.
- No exclusive rights over the data or pictures, which belong to their providers.
Not a donation, not an investment
Adoptice is a business. Your payment buys a digital product and service. It is not a charitable gift and it is not tax deductible. We do not give the money to a charity or a research programme, and we make no claim that an adoption helps the ice or the climate. Adoptions have no resale value and are not an investment.
Independent
Adoptice is an independent registry. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by NASA, ESA, the European Commission or its Copernicus programme, the US National Ice Center, NSIDC, the Randolph Glacier Inventory consortium, or any space agency or government body. We use their public data and credit it on the Credits page.
Limits of the data
Glacier outlines are snapshots and may be out of date. Iceberg sizes are estimates. Pictures depend on cloud and satellite schedules. A piece can break up, melt or vanish from the official list, and we then mark it as in farewell. We take care, but we do not guarantee that any data is complete or free of error. Read how we work on the Data and methodology page.
Pledges
Some printables offer personal commitments to choose from, such as using less energy. They are promises you make to yourself. We make no claim about their effect.
